What was the fundamental issue faced by Luther in the Peasants' Revolt?

I would like to like to know the fundamentals of the Peasants' Revolt, the demands of the peasant's, how so many people learned a great deal about religious doctrine, and and why Luther did not support the peasant's in their revolt.
