Whats the point in Neighbourhood Watch?

To me it just seems a way of nosey old gits and curtain twichers to feel important. Also what about the silly yellow stickers? If you put them on your door its just an invite for smelly old gits to come winge and gossip about crap. Hows it going to stop crime its just a load of rubbish.
